Back-to-school season is here! Aside from making sure your child has everything they need for a new school year; you’ll also want to help them get prepared by prioritizing their overall health and wellness.
Here’s what you can do to help your child have a healthy transition back to school and a successful year.
Stay on a vaccine schedule – Back-to-school season is a great opportunity to get your child up to date on vaccinations. Most states have vaccination law requirements children must meet to attend public or private school and daycare facilities, these will typically vary from state to state. To best determine if your child is behind or on track with the necessary vaccinations for their age, please check with their pediatrician’s office.

Back to school anxiety – A new school can be something many children look forward to, but for others it can spark nervousness, anxiety or stress. Every child has different experiences at school so this could be due to a wide variety of reasons including bullying, making friends, starting somewhere new, classes they struggle with and more. You can help reduce these anxieties for your child by discussing any concerns they might associate with the new school year; then come up with solutions together to help them feel more at ease!
Sports physicals – If your child participates in sports, this type of physical helps determine how safe it is for them to play in the upcoming season. Our pediatricians will evaluate your athlete’s medical history, conduct a physical examination, as well as identify if there are any health conditions that could make it unsafe to participate in sports-related activity. Be sure to plan ahead for this exam as it’s recommended to do approximately 1-2 months before the season starts up.
So much can happen with your child’s overall health in just one year; so it’s necessary to visit their pediatrician annually to track any changes. Help your child walk into a new school year with a healthy start by getting a well-child exam with one of our pediatricians today!
